Runway

Runway numbers are the magnetic direction divided by 10 and rounded: a runway pointing 143° is "14". The other end is 180° different: "32". Parallel runways add Left, Right or Centre — KLIA has runways 14L/32R, 14R/32L and 15/33.

Markings: white threshold stripes ("piano keys"), the runway number, the aiming point and the centre line. Taxiways have a yellow centre line and are named with letters; holding points (two solid and two dashed yellow lines) must never be crossed without clearance.

The windsock shows wind direction (it points away from the wind) and strength. Aircraft take off and land into the wind to reduce ground speed.
